New information, update from March 19, 2025

Information on elite players: We have removed the reference to the handicaps of other bars. Elite players in the leagues will be determined in the future based on the games won in the leagues and – as before – on individual decisions by the league management.

We have also decided to allow two elite players per set under certain conditions. This also applies to doubles and gang bangs.

However: To prevent teams from only getting support from elite players for individual games, the following applies: Elite players must be part of the team and play regularly. „Regularly“ means that the player must have attended approximately one-third of all matches in a season.

Especially at the end of a season, we will check to ensure that elite players are not only invited to improve the score on a point-by-point basis.

Then I found a statement from the previous organizers of the Wednesday League that I fully support:

“We wanted to return to the times when pool was played to win, but in a pleasant and friendly way, without recourse to a ‚win at all costs‘ attitude, which seemed to have consumed many leagues. A time when the residents of Hua Hin and visitors, gathered to have a few drinks, socialise and enjoy the evening and teams were not packed with ‚elite‘ players, whose sole purpose seemed to be to grind lesser teams into the ground. A pool league where those with a more average skill set, could compete on a level playing field.”

It is with this in mind that we run the three leagues we organize.

Welcome to the SIXTH season of the  “Wednesday Pool Hua Hin” – League.
This season runs from Wednesday, January 8th, to May 18th, 2025.

What’s new?

Eternal Topic: Elite players

Most of the bars where elite-players played no longer play in the Wednesday league. This has alleviated the problem somewhat.

The rule that unlimited elite players can play in Group 1 and no elite players are allowed in Group 2 is therefore being lifted.

Now we are trying something new. The purpose of the elite player rule is to regulate bars that occasionally get good players from outside to play their way forward.

Teams that have two good players but have been playing together as a team for a long time should be able to continue to do so.

This is why, after consultation with the league management, teams can use TWO elite players in a set. The prerequisite is that these elite players are part of the team and are not just ordered to strengthen the team temporarily. Anyone who has been present for at least half of all match days is considered part of the team.

In the Wednesday league we have a good mix of 18 teams. There are seven new teams. We are playing in two groups again, because otherwise the playing time would be too long. There will also be a „final“ at the end of the season. That has a special appeal.

Please note:

We have two groups with 9 teams each, which means that one team in each group always has a free week.

More News:

• IMPORTANT: If the final result is 11:10 (or 10:11), the losing team is awarded 1 point. (Winners receive 2 points, as before). (Point 7 of the league rules)
• Each player must play at least TWO frames per evening per team.(Point 24 of the league rules)
• New plastic folder only for new bars. There are only the game data and the score sheets printed out. Please put them in the existing folders.
• Further changes to the Tuesday league rules affect point 26: Score Sheets, point 28: Communication, point 30: Presentation night. New is point 29: Expulsion from the league.

We have adapted some rarely used WPA-Rules to the Wednesday League:

This is intended to protect against unnecessary discussions. 

Those interested can take a look at the most important WPA rules.  Some of which have been adapted to the Hua Hin leagues.

Please note the following Hua Hin league rule:

• Point 15: ”Game cancellations/game postponements” 
• No player can play for different teams on the same night. (Point 22)
  
• Each player can only change teams once per season. (Point 23)
  
• Changing players three weeks before the end of the season is not possible. (Point 23)
  
• Each player must provide their correct name. (Point 26)
  
• All agreements can be found in the Tuesday League Rules

For clarification:

1. When setting up 9-ball, the „1-ball“ is on the spot (not the „9-ball“).
   In 8-ball, the foremost ball is on the spot (not the „8-ball“). This applies regardless of the size of the table.

2.  The food spot is determined by the position of the diamond markings on the edge of the table. The marking on the cloth is NOT decisive.
   
3. In 8-ball rack, the usual arrangement of the balls is possible, but it is NOT a rule. The rule states that there is NO purposeful or intentional pattern.
4. There is a minimum consumption of THB 800 for the guest team. It is the responsibility of the home team bar owner/captain, not the league administration, to inform the away team of any underspending and to resolve the issue amicably with them.
